Research Development
Mission
The mission of the Research Development Office is to grow the volume and visibility of UMD’s research enterprise. We provide customized services to help faculty and faculty-led groups across the university turn ideas into action. Whether you are launching a new initiative, communicating a vision to university leaders, or identifying opportunities for unique research contributions, we are supportive partners during pivotal moments.
The Research Development Office oversees a number of key functions and operations:
- developing a detailed understanding of the funding landscape
- cultivating and maintaining strategic partnerships with funding agencies, industry, foundations, and external partners
- proactively assisting faculty to identify funding opportunities
- executing university wide strategic initiatives and campus-wide programs
- managing the limited submissions grant applications process
- providing proposal development and management services for key proposals
- elevating the look and impact of proposals and research products through graphics support
- supporting new and high-impact research via internal grants, including the Maryland Catalyst Funds; Independent Scholarship, Research and Creativity Awards (ISRCA); MPower collaborations; and the Grand Challenges Grants program
- delivering programming (including workshops, writing groups, panel presentations) to increase faculty competitiveness for external funding
- facilitating and supporting visits from senior officials from federal agencies, companies, and foundations
- preparing proposal teams to deliver responsive, cohesive, and impactful finalist-stage presentations (interviews, site visits, reverse site visits)
