  • University of Maryland Libraries Enter Phase 2 of Reopening Plan

    The University of Maryland Libraries have moved into Phase 2 of their reopening plan, as of Monday, July 27. During Phase 2, library staff are providing paging/curbside pickup of physical materials from the extensive general collections at McKeldin Library. (Note that at this time only McKeldin materials will be available for pickup; access to physical materials from other campus libraries and interlibrary loan materials will come later.)

    Osvaldo Gutierrez is breaking new ground on the road to synthesizing medicine. The University of Maryland assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry is creating shortcuts for costly experimental trial and error by modeling chemical reactions on computers before taking his experiments into the lab. The modeling allows him to predict how atoms and molecules will arrange themselves during chemical reactions and gives him a leg up on experimentation.

  • Study Shows Three Medications Currently on the Market May Have Unexpected Effects

    A new study of 1,443 medications found that three prescription drugs currently on the market caused unexpected changes in worms that could point to potential, unrecognized effects in humans.
