BALTIMORE and COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland achieved its highest ranking ever in the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) survey for fiscal year (FY) 2019, placing 14th overall nationally and 8th among all public institutions in Research & Development (R&D) spending.

With a death toll nearing 450,000—claiming more American lives than World War II—COVID-19 is far from under control in the United States. That could be due in part to our “loose” culture, finds new research led by Distinguished University of Maryland Professor of Psychology Michele Gelfand.
