University of Maryland Among Top 100 Proposals for MacArthur $100 Million Grant
College Park, MD — The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation today unveiled that the University of Maryland has one of the highest-scoring proposals, designated as the Top 100, in its 100&Change competition for a single $100 million grant to help solve one of the world's most critical social challenges.
Darryll Pines Named University of Maryland's 34th President
The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents has appointed Darryll J. Pines, Ph.D., as the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD).Pines has spent 25 years on the College Park campus and is dean of the university’s A. James Clark School of Engineering. His appointment is effective July 1, 2020.
University of Maryland Convenes Alliance to Accelerate Quantum Ecosystem
Leaders from the University of Maryland, the state of Maryland and other partners gathered yesterday in Annapolis to launch an alliance designed to push innovations from quantum science and engineering into the mainstream and further enhance the region’s primacy in a field that promises to revolutionize society. Led by UMD and including other local universities, industry partners and government labs, the Maryland Quantum Alliance will develop pioneering quantum technologies—including powerful computers, sensors and networks—and train the quantum workforce of tomorrow.
