“A ship in a harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for.” University of Maryland assistant professor Katrina Groth often recalls the old saying as she weighs the balance between technological advancement and risk. With support from a newly-announced National Science Foundation (NSF) Early Career Development (CAREER) award, Groth is poised to lead further advancements in risk assessment—in turn fostering the safe adoption of cutting-edge tech.
