University of Maryland Launches New Social Data Science Center with Support from Facebook
The University of Maryland’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) and the College of Information Studies (iSchool) are launching a Social Data Science Center to help researchers better access, analyze and use powerful social science data. Such data is critical to understanding and addressing many of the pressing challenges facing the nation and world.
Cornelia Fermuller is PI for 'NeuroPacNet,' a $1.75M NSF funding award
ISR-affiliated Associate Research Scientist Cornelia Fermüller (UMIACS) is the principal investigator for a four-year, $1.75M National Science Foundation AccelNet award: “NeuroPacNet”—Accelerating Research on Neuromorphic Perception, Action, and Cognition. The four-year project will develop a "network of networks" to link international researchers developing a new neuromorphic paradigm for artificial intelligence.

When the world started to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, there was little information on the racial differences of incidence and mortality. But health equity experts like Dr. Stephen Thomas knew that this information was crucial to documenting and addressing potential racial disparities.
