Research Operations Innovation

The Office of Research Operations Innovation was established to leverage existing resources and pursue opportunities to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of the operations of the research enterprise at the University of Maryland. The Office of Research Operations Innovation will serve as a central resource for integrating and streamlining processes across the Division of Research, with the aim of advancing the effectiveness of the University's research enterprise within a framework of integrity and compliance. The Office is led by the Director of Research Operations Innovation, Integration, and Policy

Key Projects

A core project for the Office will focus on advancing AI initiatives, under the leadership of the Director of AI Initiatives. This effort positions the Division of Research to lead in an increasingly dynamic research environment by transforming uncertainty into strategic advantage. By leveraging AI to anticipate funding shifts, identify emerging opportunities, and reduce administrative burden, we are building a more strategic research enterprise that augments human expertise, improves operational efficiency, and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across College Park and Baltimore, reinforcing the University of Maryland’s role as a hub where convergent research drives real societal impact.

The Office will also focus on assessing, developing, and revising University policies related to research, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Research Policy Compliance. The Assistant Director of Research Policy Compliance works directly with subject matter experts within the Division of Research and additional campus stakeholders to develop and revise University policies to improve effectiveness and ensure alignment with federal laws and regulations and funding agency requirements.
