Funding Opportunities
The Division of Research provides several tools and resources to help UMD faculty identify funding opportunities across internal programs, limited submission opportunities, and external sponsor searches.
UMD offers recurring internal programs that support early-stage research, interdisciplinary collaboration, seed funding, and proposal development. Current cycles and application details are always available through InfoReady.
Internal Funding
For opportunities with institutional submission limits, we coordinate centrally — faculty can review open cycles and requirements through InfoReady.
Limited Submissions
UMD supports campus-wide access to SPINPlus, a comprehensive funding database with thousands of opportunities from sponsors worldwide. Faculty can search on-campus without a profile and create a free account for off-campus access or to save searches.
External Funding Searches
For researchers needing major lab equipment or shared instrumentation, we encourage exploring targeted instrumentation funding opportunities in coordination with the Research Development Office (RDO) and core facilities.

SPINPlus
Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN) database features information on over 40,000 funding opportunities from more than 10,000 sponsors worldwide. SPINPlus data is obtained directly from the sponsoring agencies to ensure its accuracy.
On-Campus:
You can automatically use SpinPlus from any on-campus IP address.
Off-Campus:
You'll need a SpinPlus profile (free and available here) to use the service off-campus. A profile also allows you to save searches to revisit.
