KUALI-IRB LAUNCH (1/5):
Kuali-IRB is LIVE for new projects and transitions! For more information, see the Transition to Kuali-IRB page.
What is an IRB liaison?
An IRB liaison (or department representative) is responsible for administratively reviewing all initial applications prior to their submission to the IRB for review.
What resources are available for IRB Liaisons?
See the Liaison Resources on the Kuali-IRB page.
What does an IRB liaison look for during the review?
The review of an IRB liaison includes ensuring that all necessary components of your initial application are complete: all required personnel are listed, CITI training is correctly uploaded and up to date, attachments are uploaded.
Why do I need my IRB liaison?
By conducting an administrative review of the submitted documents, the IRB liaison review can facilitate a quicker turnover from submission to approval. When components of applications are missing, the time it takes to approve a project significantly increases.
PLEASE NOTE: The liaison is not required to approve any subsequent amendments or continuing reviews.
When is my project reviewed by my IRB liaison?
After the IRB Application (Version 1) has been submitted, approved by the PI (if the PI is not the submitter), and approved by the Faculty Advisor (if PI is a student). At this point, Kuali will automatically send the protocol to the IRB liaison for review.
See the IRB Application Workflow Visual (PDF) for more details.
What if my department does not have a liaison?
If you do not see an IRB liaison listed for your department, please contact your Department Chair to act in this role for your submission. If a department wishes to add or change an IRB liaison, please contact the IRB.
