Contact Us

We want to make your protocol submission and compliance efforts as efficient as possible! To start, see our Info for Researchers page and feel free to contact the IACUC Office with any outstanding questions or requests as soon as possible and we will help get you on track.

The IACUC Office is open from Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Emails and phone calls sent outside of those hours may be addressed the following business day. A response to your email may come from any of the following individuals in the IACUC Office:

Non-urgent adverse events and unexpected health issues and deaths must also be reported to the University Attending Veterinarian and IACUC. See DLAR's Veterinary Care and Services webpage for more information and additional contact information.

Other emergencies can include human medical emergencies, smoke or other unusual smells like gas and chemicals, suspicious packages, suspicious person, etc.

Report Animal Ethics Concerns

Concerns or questions related to the animal care program should be directed to both of the following:

  • Office of the IACUC | 301.405.7295 or iacuc@umd.edu
  • University Attending Veterinarian | 301.458.5082 or vets@umd.edu or the On-Call Veterinarian | 301.458.5047

Examples of situations that must be reported to the IACUC include the following:

  • Conditions that jeopardize the health or well-being of animals and humans
  • Chronic failure to provide food, water or space for animals
  • Conduct of animal-related activities without appropriate IACUC review and approval or beyond the date of IACUC protocol expiration
  • Participation in animal-related activities by individuals who are not appropriately qualified or trained
  • Failure to monitor animals post-procedurally to ensure well-being
