Goals

The University of Maryland is dedicated not only to the dissemination of knowledge but also to the creation and application of knowledge for the good of all people. The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights recognizes the right of the world’s citizens "to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications.” As the modern metropolitan embodiment of the Land-Grant University, the University of Maryland can help fulfill that universal right. 

Many of the big challenges in research are increasingly international in scope and beyond the capabilities of any single institution or nation. 

Therefore, as one of the world’s leading research institutions, the University of Maryland will continue to develop sustainable partnerships to:

  • Strengthen the research undertaken by the university in areas of strategic importance to address global issues; 
     
  • Enable the university to pursue large-scale, global research opportunities;
