About the Site Visit:

The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AHHRP) conducted an accreditation site visit at The University of Maryland, College Park campus from September 27, 2018 – September 28, 2018. AAHRPP is an international, independent nonprofit organization that reviews and accredits an institution’s human research protections program (HRPP). Long regarded as the gold standard, AAHRPP accreditation is becoming the norm for quality research programs; this was UMD's first visit for accreditation.

Preparing for the Site Visit:

The UMD IRB Office was excited to host our first AAHRPP site visit as part of our application for accreditation; this was the final step toward receiving accreditation in a process the IRB Office began in 2017.  Through the process, the IRB Office provided AAHRPP with a written description of our HRPP policies, procedures, and resources, as well as a list of all active IRB protocols.  During the site visit, representatives from AAHRPP reviewed IRB records and conducted interviews with HRPP stakeholders.

To help HRPP stakeholders prepare for the site visit and potential interviews, we produced the below resources.
