Michael Otte, assistant professor of aerospace engineering, studies how swarms of multiple robots can coordinate to form a "group mind" to solve problems, ranging from housework to search and rescue operations. In one experiment (below), he trained a group of tiny bots to form a smiley face at the sight of a peace symbol.
